WTEN | Kozyreva Advances to Semis of ITA Regionals

Mariia Kozyreva continues to lead the charge for the Gaels at the Stanford-hosted tournament.
STANFORD, Calif. — Mariia Kozyreva picked up another big win in singles on Sunday and will now advance to the semifinals of the ITA Regionals at Stanford University.
No. 68 Kozyreva ran into another ranked player in the quarterfinals, No. 42 Anna Bright from Cal. Despite her lower seed, Kozyreva had no problem taking care of Bright as she dominated in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-3 decision. Tomorrow, the Gaels' junior takes on Katarina Kopcalic from Washington at noon.
In consolation singles, Jordan Harris and Gabriela Tevez each picked up straight set wins. Harris defeated Angela Schuster from Portland, 6-4, 6-0 while Tevez handed Stanford's Taylor Lallas a 6-1, 6-0 defeat.
Harris and Tevez also teamed up for an 8-2 consolation doubles win against a tandem from Fresno State. Kozyreva and Danielle McIntyre were eliminated from the doubles quarterfinals round after dropping an 8-3 set to Bright/Giavarra from Cal.
