SEASIDE, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's golf team moved up two spots on the final day of the 2026 SMC Invitational on Wednesday, finishing in a tie for 11th place out of the 18-team field.Â
Bayonet was a challenge yet again on Wednesday thanks to some challenging pins and inclement weather. The 18-team field dealt with on-and-off showers all day but was able to finish the round without any delays. The course played nearly a stroke-and-a-half over par at 73.23 after nearing two strokes over par the day prior. Veterans Sam Baumuller and Inigo Izuzquiza guided the Gaels with rounds of even par, combining for nine birdies on the day. Baumuller birdied the par four ninth, the second hardest hole of the day, to get back to even par and finish tied for 17th over his three rounds. Â
Freshmen Trey Tuyo and Will Hardy rounded out the final round of scoring for the Gaels with a pair of 73's. Tuyo recorded four birdies on the day including a birdie-birdie start to his round off the back nine to contribute to his round of one-over-par. Hardy went birdie-birdie himself to make the turn and had just one blemish over his final nine holes to record his lowest round of the week at one-over.Â
Head coach Scott Hardy also played three individuals in the annual hosted event at Bayonet this week including James Williams, Matthew Almajano and Drew Krystyn. Williams was the Gaels' top individual for the week with a three-round score of seven-over. Williams had three-birdies over his final 18 holes on Wednesday to record his low round of the week with a 73 (+1). Krystyn and Almajano each carded 76's on Wednesday, finishing the week ten-over-par and 13-over-par respectively.Â
Big Ten member Washington posted a tournament low 16-under final round on Wednesday to run away with the team title. There was a four-way tie for the individual title at ten-under-par from the likes of Santa Clara, Oregon, Washington and Cal. Final round leaderboards can be found HERE or at smcgaels.com. Â
LOOKING AHEAD
Saint Mary's will remain in The Peninsula this week and head south to play in the annual Preserve Golf Club Collegiate hosted by Cal Poly. The three-round event will start on Monday, October 26 at The Preserve in Carmel, California. Additional tournament information and live scoring links can be found HERE or at smcgaels.com.Â
