MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels put a bow on a dominant weekend against CSUN, downing the Matadors 9-0 to finish off their home-opening softball series with a three game sweep. Saint Mary's put up a season-high nine runs and nine hits, while working their second shutout win of the season.

Braxton Brown led a group of four Gaels who went un-retired at the plate. The junior out of Benicia went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI. Sam Buckley reached three times and scored three times, while Alex Cutonilli scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Odhi Vasquez went the distance in the circle, logging her first victory of the season, a complete game shutout effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels (5-3) hit the ground running for the third time in as many games against the Matadors (1-7), hanging up a four spot in the top of the first. A Braxton Brown one out RBI double got the scoring going for Saint Mary's, and a Janessa Parras flare single to right would cap off the frame scoring the Gaels' fourth run. Braxton Brown would drive in another run with two outs in the second, part of a two run inning, and Saint Mary's would pile on three more runs in the fourth, courtesy of back-to-back doubles from Alex Cutonilli and Braxton Brown. Odhi Vasquez surrendered just one hit, a leadoff double in the second, and just three base runners in the game, stranding all of them on the basepaths.

GAME NOTES

Braxton Brown logged her fourth career three-hit ballgame, and her sixth career multi-RBI game.
Brown anchored a group of Gaels in the top four spots in the order that combined to go 7-for-8 with three doubles, eight runs scored and five RBI.
Odhi Vasquez became the second Gael pitcher in as many days to work a complete game shutout, joining Mia Nishikawa, who achieved the same feat in the opener against CSUN.
The shutout was the 12th for Vasquez in her Saint Mary's career, moving her to fifth all-time in program history.
Vasquez now leads the Gaels with a 1.20 ERA, a 0.77 WHIP, and opponents batting average of 0.108 and 12 strikeouts.
True freshman Janessa Parras drove in her first collegiate RBI.
The Gaels moved their home win streak to six in a row.

The Gaels will now head south to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, where they will play San Diego State, Hawaii, Washington, South Carolina and Long Beach State on February 20 - 22.
